Five o’clock. The first open door was a flour mill: a grinding machine, sacks of grain, a bed against the tiled wall, the household gods above the door.

Next door, a tailor’s shop: a treadle machine, a work table, finished shirts on a rail.

Sixteen minutes later, an elder in a white shirt and a patterned turban stood against a brick wall for his portrait.

At the end of the lane a woman knelt at a clay stove, a chulha, built against the courtyard wall. Firewood, a pan of dough, a stack of steel plates.
She made bread for sixteen minutes. I filmed it in one take.

These pictures were made in a single afternoon, in August 2025. They are notes towards a longer piece of work rather than a finished story.
