How this site treats you, and the people in the pictures.
Short and plain. Last updated 30 October 2026.
Who is responsible
This site is run by Sascha Klamp, a documentary photographer and filmmaker based in London, trading as Ethnophotography, Five Mountain Films and Up 2 Imagination. I am the controller of the personal data described here. Write to hello@ethnophotography.com about anything on this page.
What I collect, and why
- Your email address, if you ask for the letters from the field. I use it only to send those letters. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by replying "unsubscribe".
- Messages you send me, so I can reply. I keep them only as long as the conversation needs.
- Family photographs and stories you share for an archive. These are used only as agreed with you and the family, and are removed on request.
Payments
Gifts, patron subscriptions and orders are handled by PayPal. PayPal processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; I never see your card details. PayPal tells me your name, email address, the amount and, for orders, the postal address, which I use only to thank you and to post your order.
Services this site uses
- Cloudflare hosts the site and keeps short technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep it secure.
- Google Fonts and Adobe Fonts deliver the typefaces, which means your browser contacts their servers.
- YouTube plays some films. Nothing loads from YouTube until you press play; after that, YouTube may set cookies under its own policy.
- WeTransfer carries photographs you choose to send me.
People in the photographs
Every portrait and family photograph is shared with the permission of the people in it or their family. Where safety requires it, places are shown only as a region. If you appear in a picture, or a picture of your family is here, and you want it changed or taken down, write to me and I will act on it promptly.
How long I keep data
Email addresses stay on the list until you unsubscribe. Payment records are kept for as long as UK tax law requires. Everything else is deleted once it is no longer needed.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data I hold about you, or object to how it is used. Write to hello@ethnophotography.com. If you are unhappy with my answer, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
